In this summer’s roundup: the pride-inducing day of the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Camogie Championships, Liberty Insurance’s ‘Camogie Made Me’ campaign, and the launch of ‘Cora – The Greatest’ documentary, as well as stellar results in Ladies Football, Hockey, Canoeing and Paralympic competitions from around the world.
Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Camogie Championship Finals Roundup
The Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Camogie Championships 2018 saw a turnout of 21,467, with stunning efforts from the teams in contention at every level.
Premier Junior Final (Result: Dublin 1-12 Kerry 0-06)
Dublin’s Camogie domination continued in the Premier Junior Final, with a crucial 15th minute goal from Aoife Bugler (Liberty Insurance Premier Junior Player of the Year 2017) securing the win alongside an impressive team effort overall.
Intermediate Final (Result: Cork 1-13 Down 0-09)
The Rebels rallied from their previous two consecutive defeats to come out on top – no easy task after a brilliant effort from Down throughout.
Senior Final (Result: Cork 0-14 Kilkenny 0-13)
With Briege Corkery coming out of retirement and the culmination of an exciting year for both teams, it was always going to be a nail-biting final. Both teams fought with determination and passion right to the very end, but it was Cork who finally grabbed the glory with Orla Cotter’s defining score in injury-time.
‘Camogie Made Me’ Campaign As Part of Extended Camogie Support
This summer, Liberty Insurance were delighted to extend their sponsorship of the All-Ireland Camogie Championships, as well as a €2.5 million investment in sponsorship, research and promotion of women in sport over the next 3 years.
In addition, Liberty Insurance launched a new campaign: ‘Camogie Made Me Ready for the Real World’. The campaign showcases how on-pitch attributes like confidence, focus, organisational skills and resilience can be applied in players’ off-pitch lives. The four featured players are Michaela Morkan of Offaly, Collette Dormer of Kilkenny, former Wexford player Mags D’Arcy and Gemma O’Connor of Cork.
Deirdre Ashe, Director of Customer & Markets at Liberty Insurance said of the campaign: “Our ‘Camogie Made Me Ready for the Real World’ campaign differs from traditional advertising campaigns in that it heroes a number of Camogie players and showcases the off-pitch aspects of their lives. We want to highlight to young girls that sport can help you in so many ways in your life and help you succeed where you might not have otherwise.”
‘Cora – The Greatest’ Documentary
As part of their continued support and thought-leadership around women in sport, Liberty Insurance are the proud sponsors of a new documentary: ‘Cora – The Greatest’, produced by Empire Elite Productions. Shot over the course of six months, this access-all-areas documentary provides exclusive insights into the unique and fascinating world of one of Ireland’s most famous footballing exports, Cora Staunton.
Liberty Insurance hosted an exclusive screening of the documentary in the Stella Theatre in Dublin on Tuesday 11 September, to give media, business partners and employees an exclusive first look. The documentary then aired on Sunday, 16 September on TG4. For those who missed it, it is available on the TG4 Player. Follow the commentary around the documentary on Twitter with #Cora.
Working with Cora also presented a great opportunity to add to the ‘Ready for the Real World’ content series, producing a 2-minute clip where Cora talks about how sport made her brave and ready for the real world.

Ladies Football Final, Croke Park, 16th September
With a record breaking attendance of 51,141, heart and soul were poured into all of the final games, with Limerick, Tyrone and Cork coming out on top.
Junior Final (Result: Limerick 5-06 Louth 0-08)
Limerick won the Junior title, racking up points steadily throughout the game.
Intermediate Final (Result: Tyrone 6-08 Meath 1-14)
Tyrone took the Intermediate title after playing a stormer against Meath.
Senior Final (Result: Dublin 3-11 Cork 1-12)
Dublin raised the Brendan Martin Cup high for the second year running in their Senior Final win against Cork.
Hockey
Previously ranked 16th in the world, the Irish women’s hockey team surpassed expectations and roared into the World Cup Final on Sunday, 5th August. The first Irish team ever to reach a Senior World Final in a field sport, the team fought a hard battle and brought home the Silver after an astounding campaign.
Canoe
Jenny Egan brought home the Bronze in the K1 5000m race at the ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Portugal on 26 August. Egan made history by winning Ireland’s first ever world championship canoe sprint medal.
Irish Paralympic Team Success at the European Championships
A hugely successful outing for the Irish Paralympic team at this year’s European Championships saw the 9 female medals won in:
Swimming
Ellen Keane won Ireland’s first ever gold in swimming at the World Paralympic championships, with an additional bronze win on top of that. Nicole Turner brought home a silver in swimming
Discus
Orla Barry, Noelle Lenihan and Niamh McCarthy all brought home a gold in Discus.
100m & 200m
Orla Comerford won bronze in both T13 races
1500m
Greta Streimikyte took the gold in the T13 1500m
